Edge of Tomorrow - Creating the Mimics
The Mimic was a beast to animate. Toughest creature I have ever animated. Every shot was unique and presented its own set of challenges. The tentacles had an impressive about of dexterity and detail. The vid shows some examples of the scaling, twisting, growing flexibility of the rig. Doesn't mention the 'hair' tentacles on the head though. We had a combination of animation and animation simulation controls for those.

Behind The Scene: Edge of Tomorrow
Here's a short behind the scenes vid for Edge of Tomorrow featuring a sequence we worked on at Framestore. I animated a couple of shots in this featurette. The shot where the mimic slams into the cars in the car park and the crash scene where the dropship smashes into the Louvre with the digital body double take over for Tom.

Kon-Tiki / VFX Breakdown Reel
I don't post many vfx reels but this one is jaw dropping! ILP's (Important Looking Pirates) work on the upcoming Norwegian film Kon-Tiki is just stunning! The animation on the parrot and sharks is also top notch! The film looks like quite an adventure! Looking forward to seeing it!

'Classic Creatures' Return of the Jedi (1983)

This 1983 PBS behind the scenes look at the creatures of 'Return of the Jedi' is an awesome glimpse into the ILM model shop during it's prime. There's lots of footage of work in progress puppets and stop-motion rigs from the film.
